Welcome to my Blog

I am happily married with two children. We live in lower Alabama and love the outdoors. I am trying to devote this blog to talk about my experiences and life in the country. I am diabetic, so I have been learning how to eat for optimal health, garden for fresh veggies, diet, get more activity into my life, pretty much living off the land and just be more healthy overall. I've been gardening since 2008, so each year is more and more welcoming! I also enjoy photography, fashion, makeup, racquetball, music, research, learning new things, motivation, fun, water, simple things in life, health and happiness!

Thursday Fun!!

Thursday afternoon.....Veggies are FINALLY starting to show some progress in our front yard garden, which consists of 21 rows 100' long. Its awesome, but I know we are going to be terribly busy in just a short month or so.  Irrigation is a big issue at the moment...but thanks to the small swimming pond we dug, we were able to use a pump and a hose to suck the water out to irrigate the garden until it rains..LOL. Very ingenious idea on Daniel's part. :) So we walked up and down the rows....there were a few beans ready.  Then because we can't hold our anticipation, decided to dig around some potato plants.  We gathered enough stuff for dinner sides. I had to add some frozen corn and fried up some pork chops for the perfect dinner!!  Here are some pics! I can't wait until we are picking blueberries and stuff! I hope to lose that 25 lbs again this summer. I had lost weight gardening, just to break my ankle and gain it all back in 2 weeks. Sucky. But, today is another day!!

FRESH HERBS!

I love my herb box!! Ok, so about two months ago, I was just having one of those days....you know what I'm talking about. So I decided to take a walk and check out my planter boxes.  To my surprise every thing had been butchered by the weed eater. :( Now my day just got worse! I had started that one rosemary from seed, and it was taking forever to grow, now it was chopped to the ground. Come to find out, it was the best thing for my herbs.  They are doing better than ever! I guess I finally realized you can grow all those things, but they also must be harvested and put to good use. I have all kinds of things this year...oregano, mint, rosemary, basil, chives, salad, sage, and cilantro. I plan on making some salsa when my tomatoes get ready! Mint is good to put in tea, or in a foot spa is awesome! If you've ever tried to grow mint...make room, because it spreads like crazy! Same with oregano! The oregano is going to be out of this world when I make spagetti, oooh, or garlic bread.
